Taylor Swift’s Folklore Book Tag (Original)

Hey everyone! Welcome to a very special post of mine that I wasn’t expecting to do (thank you miss Swift for the pleasant surprise folklore was), but I’m so happy to be doing it! This is my very first original book tag, so I’m very excited for it and I really hope you like it and maybe even do it on your blogs.

Taylor is one of my favorite singers of all time. I’ve adored everything that she has put out since 2009 when I discovered her music and obviously, when she dropped the bomb of this album I was in SHOCK (or, well, a mercurial high *wink*). I love how raw and sad this book is and I was anticipating this kind of content from her since RED, which is my favorite album by her.

The 1 – A book you wanted to read but never did

“You know the greatest films of all time were never made”

Caraval by Stephanie Garber – I want to think I’ll read this book one day. When it came out ages ago I REALLY wanted to read it but… as time passed I kind of forgot about it. I don’t know if I’ll read it in the future but let’s hope that I do.

Cardigan – A character that didn’t end up with their first love interest

“You drew stars around my scars / But now I’m bleeding”

Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses – Just two words: THANK GOD.

The Last Great American Dynasty – A book with an epic female protagonist

“There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen / She had a marvelous time ruining everything”

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab – Lila Bard has my heart and soul. She’s the very definition of epic, her personality is fierce, she’s fearless and complex and UGH just perfect.

Exile – A book about walking out of a toxic relationship

“You were my town, now I’m in exile, seeing you out / I think I’ve seen this film before”

To Drink Coffee With A Ghost by Amanda Lovelace – As you know, any kind of relationship can be toxic, not just the romantic kind. This poetry book addressing an abusive relationship between a mother and a daughter and the way it’s told really makes you connect with what the author is trying to say. I highly recommend it.

My Tears Ricochet – The fictional couple that made you suffer the most

“And if I’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes, too”

Violet and Finch from All The Bright Places – The main point of this book it’s not the romance, but what these two went through hit so close to home for me that it was just so hard to read about them. I cried all the way through.

Mirrorball – A swoon-worthy, sweet couple

“You’ll find me on my tallest tiptoes / Spinning in my highest heels, love / Shinning just for you”

Josh and Hazel from Josh and Hazel’s Guide To Not Dating – These two come up in the dictionary when you look up “swoony”. They’re two fluff balls that deserve all the love in the world so let’s protect them at all costs.

Seven – A book with fae characters

“Please picture me in the weeds / Before I learned civility”

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas – One thing I really loved of this book is that it didn’t focused on one particular fantastic creature but mixed lots of them and seeing them interact with each other and setting the rules for their world was amazing. I can’t wait for more.

August – A book you’ve read very fast

“August sipped away like a bottle of wine / ‘Cause you were never mine”

I’ll Be The One by Lyla Lee – I read this in less than 48 hours which is saying a lot for a slow reader just getting out of a reading slump. And there’s a very good reason as to why I flew through it, it was pure perfection.

This Is Me Trying – A coming of age book

“Pouring out my heart to a stranger / But I didn’t pour the whiskey”

With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo – Okay I’m not an expert on the coming of age genre so you’ll have to excuse me if this book doesn’t fit said category. The growth of Emoni, the main character, was amazing in my opinion and I loved seeing her fulfilling her goals and doing the transition to adulthood.

Illicit Affairs – A book with a forbidden love

“Tell your friends you’re out for a run / You’ll be flushed when you return”

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins – In this prequel, the mentor (Snow) and the tribute (Lucy Gray) fall in love but obviously it’s forbidden so they need to keep it on the down low. I was LIVING for this couple… until that last part lol.

Invisible String – A book featuring a road trip

“Time, mystical time / Cutting me open, then healing me fine”

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven – Okay, this book again, but the road trip part of it was amazing and played a crucial role on the story.

Mad Woman – Your favorite female villain

“And women like hunting witches too / Doing your dirtiest work for you”

Manon Blackbeak from Throne of Glass series – She could kick my face and I’d thank her for it… seriously.

Epiphany – A book that made everything disappear while you were having a rough time

“Just one single glimpse of relief / To make some sense of what you’ve seen”

Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare – For me, this world is so magical and unbelievable that it’s helped me disconnect through the years while going through some rough situations.

Betty – A book with second-chance trope

“I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything / But I know I miss you”

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks – I don’t like second chance trope that much. Many times, a relationship ends because it wasn’t healthy in some way, and encouraging people to go back to that is not good. That said, Noah and Allie’s story isn’t the case and this is probably the only book (and movie) from this trope I absolutely love.

Peace – A book with a passionate affair that wasn’t meant to be

“But the rain is always going to come if you’re standin’ with me”

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas – This “wasn’t meant to be” in a very different way from what the song means, but I guess I needed this as an excuse to cry about Sam and Celaena for a while. SAM CORTLAND DESERVED BETTER.

Hoax – The saddest book you remember reading

“You know I left a part of me back in New York / You know the hero died so what’s the movie for?”

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma – Okay… I was warned, but still I went and read this. And it hit me like one thousand bricks. I remember spending a couple days in some kind of fictional shock because that last pages were just SO sad, unfortunate, wrecking. Still I think it’s a story that should be widely read and discussed.
