I’ve been wanting to do this post for ages. Most of the times, sequels are one amazing thing –you already know the world you’re about to jump in, are familiar with the characters, storyline, and you probably know what to expect. If you’re particularly excited you might have your theories and all.
I’ve noticed book lists are the type of posts that you like to see more, so today I’m bringing you the sequels i’m most excited about coming out this 2020, some of them already out, some upcoming. Let’s begin!
Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson (April 30th, 2020) (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder #2)
The first book in this duology has been one of my favorite thrillers this year. I actually made a review of it as a guest post for the wonderful behindthestory, which you can read here. I think the ending of the first book didn’t left many loose ends, so I’m very intrigued by this sequel!
Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (May 5th, 2020) (Aurora Cycle #2)
I haven’t read Aurora Rising yet, but the story’s premise has me really intrigued (besides, that cover is just a masterpiece). I’m planning on reading more sci-fi this year, so this is one of the first series I’ll read from that genre!
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (May 19th, 2020) (The Hunger Games #0.5)
This is not a sequel but a prequel, focused on villain Coriolanus Snow way back, when he was a teenager. While Snow is definitely not a character I like (and I would’ve honestly prefered a prequel set during Johanna, Haymitch or Finnick’s games), I can’t deny i’m curious about how is going to be like getting inside the villain’s mind. The Hunger Games is one of the trilogies I hold close to my heart, so I really want to read this.
This Coven Won’t Break by Isabel Sterling (May 19th, 2020) (These Witches Don’t Burn #2)
I discovered the first book, titled These Witches Don’t Burn, thanks to book twitter and immediately read it. I liked the way it has magic and fantasy in it but it’s nothing too heavy. It was a book about teens that actually acted like relatable teens, which we know doesn’t happen quite often in fantasy books. I can’t wait to see what these characters are up to in the sequel!
Unravel The Dusk by Elizabeth Lim (July 7th, 2020) (The Blood of Stars #2)
Spin the Dawn left me speechless. (Well, I actually had enough to say to make a review of it). The mythology and culture showcased in this book is unique and mesmerizing, the characters are so well written and everything about this book makes you feel as if you’re in a movie. The stakes are high for the sequel, I honestly don’t know how Maia will pull through and succeed at the end… but we’ll see.
Pin this post!
The Damned by Renée Ahdieh (July 7th, 2020) (The Beautiful #1)
I haven’t read The Beautiful yet, but it’s been on my TBR since it came out. I’ve heard fantastic things about it, and since I haven’t read much vampire books before I’m eager to dive into this one. I’ve also seen some good reviews of The Damned from those lucky enough to get a hold of the ARC, and that’s always good news!
Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin (September 1st, 2020) (Serpent & Dove #1)
I already talked about this book in my anticipated reads for 2020 post. Serpent & Dove was one of my favorite books last year and I can’t wait for its sequel, for the angst and the sassiness of Lou LeBlanc to grace us once more. I’m a sucker for all things witchy and the first book in the series definitely lived up to its hype.
The Lost Book of The White by Cassandra Clare (September 1st, 2020) (The Eldest Curses #2)
Okay, okaaaaay… I haven’t read The Red Scrolls of Magic yet. So you might be wondering why this book is here.
I have the goal to read all the shadowhunter books that I haven’t read yet before this one comes out. As I’ve loved the entirety of this series (and i’m a sucker for Malec) I don’t need much to know i’ll love this book and the one that comes before it.
Iron Heart by Nina Varela (September 8th, 2020) (Crier’s War #2)
I’m currently reading Crier’s War, i’m just around 40% into the book but I already know it’s gonna be nothing short of a 4-stars read (probably even more that). I love the worldbuilding Nina Varela created, everything from social hierarchy to politics is truly fascinating and also a frightening insight to what our farway future might be. If you haven’t read Crier’s War, I highly suggest you to check it out before Iron Heart comes out!
The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi (September 22nd, 2020) (The Gilded Wolves #2)
Look at that cover! Totally unrelated, but it gives me Christmas vibes… I can’t be the only one, right?
The Gilded Wolves is yet another book I haven’t read yet, but I have to do it soon! The premise is amazing, it’s a diverse book and the reviews have been excellent so far. I love books about found family, and yes, I also love books about criminals. And totally unrelated as well, but I can’t not mention that The Silvered Serpents comes out on my birthday! (I’ll wait for your gifts, folks)
So that’s it for this post! What’s your most anticipated sequel? Do you know any books I might have missed on this post? Let’s talk in the comments!

I’m definitely not the best at book series either. For example I started Throne Of Glass at early 2019 and I still haven’t finished it😅 working on it though!

I bought the first one in 2019 and left it at my parent’s house when I moved. Someday I’ll get to it…..

Great choices! I hadn’t seen the cover for The Lost Book of the White yet so that is interesting. Like all of CC’s books, of course, it is gorgeous! So in addition to The Hunger Games prequel (which, I agree with you–Snow is not my favorite character…I would rather see a Haymitch or other character-based book…maybe in the future??) also on my list is The Damned by Renee Adieh! I enjoyed the first book and I really like the cover!

The cover for The Lost Book of the White was released not long ago so I understand why you hadn’t seen it yet! (They also released another cover for Red Scrolls of Magic that matches this one).
I’m optimistic that in the future we’ll get a Haymitch book. I don’t think Suzanne Collins will stop after Snow’s book, so who knows! ✨

I can’t wait for blood and honey. I adored Serpant and Dove. The other one I am super hyped for is Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes. I think this could be real interesting to look into the mind of a villain like Snow. But I personally would have preferred Mags’ story.

Totally agree with you! It’s definitely promising because we’ll get to know the villain a little better, but so many other characters also had great potential for a sequel. And blood & honey might be my most anticipated sequel of the list!
