TOP 10: Most intimidating books on my TBR

Hello and welcome to another one of my book talks! This time I want to show you some of my most intimidating reads. I’m not proud of it, but I procrastinate a lot. I’ve been posponing some of this books for even more than a year. So hopefully you have read some of them and let me know if I should be intimidated or not by them!

10. If We Were Villains by M.L Rio

I actually started this one. I read a chapter and a half, and decided to continue later but until now I haven’t. There’s just one thing that intimidates me of this book: the Shakespeare references. I haven’t read a single Shakespeare book, so I’m scared I will be too confused to enjoy it or understand it as much.

9. Some Kind of Perfect by K.B Ritchie

I know that, for those of you who read this epilogue book already, “intimidating” isn’t the first thing that comes to your minds when thinking about it. But i’ve grown attached to the core six characters of this series, that’s why I’m taking so long to finish it. I’m scared to read this book and say goodbye to them forever. Also, many people on book twitter didn’t seem to enjoy the spin-offs as much as the original series, and that doesn’t help much.

8. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

The main reason i’m intimidated by this is, as stupid as it may sound, because of how good it seems to be. I’ve heard wonderful things about this book, its metaphors and the worldbuilding. I’m planning to read this very soon, but i’m scared of not liking it as much as everyone seemed to!

7. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

Similarly to the first spot on this list, this book intimidates me because I don’t feel ready for it. Even if I need to read Lord of Shadows first, a friend told me this book has some epic scenes where characters of all the sagas come together and my fangirl heart cannot handle that just yet. On the other side, I’ve seen reviews where people complain this wasn’t just what they expected for the ending of The Dark Artifices, so i’m a little scared to be disappointed.

6. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

So far, I’ve only read The Grisha trilogy by Leigh and I enjoyed it (yes… i’ve been posponing Six Of Crows. No, I don’t know why. Let’s ignore this). This is another dark academia book that I really wanted to read once it came out. I actually started it but put it down once I realised I spent like 3 days reading just THIRTY PAGES. People that have read this book insist that it’s not like any book wrote by this author before, that it’s an adult book and it’s not for everyone, but I wasn’t expecting it to be so SLOW. Despite that (and the very disturbing trigger warnings that scare the hell out of me) I want to give it another try someday in the future.

5. The Secret History by Donna Tartt

I recently added this one to my Want To Read shelf on Goodreads. I’m a sucker for all things dark academia, so i’m excited for this one. Besides, i’ve seen in a lot on some blogs, with some very positive reviews. But it’s also a pretty long book (to be a mystery thriller, I think 500+ pages is pretty big), and i’m afraid that it becomes a heavy reading, which right now i’m not in the mood for. If you’ve read it please let me know what you think of it!

4. Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection by Arthur Conan Doyle

Who doesn’t know Sherlock Holmes? Whether you’ve read the books, saw the TV shows, seen the movies, or just heard about him at some point, everyone knows him and his adventures. I’ve been wanting to read this classic, but it’s over A THOUSAND pages. I’ll probably wait until fall when i’m really in the spooky mood to read it, because that’s the kind of vibe this compilation of books gives me.

3. The Poppy War by R.F Kuang

The reason why i’m intimidated by this (and most of the books on the list) is by how big this is. It has 644 pages, and i’ve seen in some reviews that it has little romance and lots of politics. Also, i’m kind of intimidated by the worldbuilding –while i’m really intrigued by a book set in Asia (or in an alternative universe inspired by it, i’m not sure yet) with ancient empires and things alike, i’m afraid some of the terms might confuse me. BUT, i’ve only heard good things about this book (my goodreads friends have all give it a 5 star rating), so I’ll definitely read this… some day.

2. It by Stephen King

Another one of the longest books on my TBR. A hardback version of this book might be a lethal weapon. I’ve heard from some booktubers that it’s a heavy reading (which doesn’t surprise me…) and even if I really wanted to read it when the film came out a couple years ago, it’s not on my current priorities.

1. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

The first place on this list! How on earth can I not be intimidated by this book??? It doesn’t only have 900+ pages, and SJM’s wonderfully complex and very detailed writing style, but it’s the ending to what might be my favorite book series ever. As of now i’ve only read four books + the prequel, but i’m dreading the day I start reading this one. I’M NOT READY.
